Welcome to the WBZ Weather Almanac

(WBZ) Welcome to our 2006 Weather Almanac!

My work as a meteorologist has taken me around the world into the heart of severe weather, up to great heights and down deep into piles of snow. The opportunity to adventure and learn about our atmosphere has been amazing, but my favorite place to experience and forecast the weather is right here in New England. I started working in Boston at the ripe old age of 23 and literally grew up on local television. I got my foot in the door thanks to my license plate--TSTORM and the right education. The news director figured I must be nuts about weather, or just in general, to drive around with those whacky New Hampshire plates for all to see! So he gave me the chance of a lifetime. It was not easy. I had much to learn and still do, but the opportunity to work here, where the weather is more than casual conversation, has been a privilege and an honor. I find our seasons and storms spellbinding--a wondrous display of nature's power and yet for all its grandeur, our local weather is very personal to me. As a forecaster, I feel responsible for the people I love, my friends and family, for folks in my community and for the viewers who tune in to stay informed. It is a big job and our fickle atmosphere always keeps me humble. And although meteorology is an "imperfect" science, try to remember, it is nothing less than the front lines of ALL science. Where else do you get to see the scientific process of reasoning and probability play out before your eyes in a way that impacts you every day? So as you enjoy our 2006 Weather Almanac, ask yourself what kind of impact weather has had on your life. The answer may be more far reaching than you think. And if so, it might be time to get a new license plate!

Sunny skies-
