Where's The Character & Integrity?

First of all, in a huge highway project, any company worth their integrity would always ask the purpose of the product to be used, especially if different types exist. So, yes Powers Fasteners IS responsible. They should have NEVER sold the fast drying epoxy, NO MATTER how much pressure was put on them. Its called "fire me for standing up to what is right." That is the problem today. NO one wants to put their character
and integrity on the line.. It's pass the buck, keep mouth shut, ignore the obvious, and work as a little as possible but get paid as much as possible.

Everyone is to blame..from the politicians, MASSPORT, the MassHighway Engineers, Bechtel, Modern Continental to Joe laborer who had to have noticed the wrong epoxy but just ignored it! ALL of them share the blame!

The BIG DIG probably should have cost $8 billion if managed properly..the waste and cost overrun was huge and due to totally incompetent supervision and management.. just like the bad concrete being used!

They are just damn lucky that the roof did not fall during rush hour with bumper to bumper traffic!

I hope the Grand Jury indicts every last company! You go girl, Martha Coakley!

Corruption At Its Best

The Big Dig...Massachusetts government's incompetance and corruption at its best!

Slap On The Wrist

That is ludicrous! Knowing that peoples lives were in jeopardy, and knowing that the glue wasn't dependable, and still going ahead with the project, this amounts to murder, not involuntary manslaughter.
Knowing what they knew, there was nothing involuntary about it. That is hardly holding someone responsible. That is a slap on the wrist. We are talking about a person's life here. That is not only an insult to her, but to her family and loved ones.

Political Grandstanding

Why not blame the concrete manufacturers for making the panels too heavy? What a joke. It's up to engineers to specify the correct material and managers to monitor QA and installation. Powers is not to blame for this fiasco...political grandstanding is all this is.

Negligence & Greed

Shame on politicians who accepted money from these contractors – they should be exposed and left to face the judgment of voters. Severe financial and criminal penalties should be applied to the contractors for their negligence and greed. Only when their profits and livelihood are threatened because of their own actions, will they even begin to think about doing the right thing. Thank you, Jack, for speaking out on this. The media in general has stopped seeking and publishing the truth about so many things – it was refreshing to hear the opinion of those of us paying for this debacle spoken by a newsperson.

Missed The Boat

Ok, hold the company responsible that sold the epoxy and not the installers and quality assurance people?

That is like holding the supermarket responsible for selling the crackers that I choked on. Unless the epoxy company actually did the installation or oversight the focus is completely wrong here.

It should be the installation contractors job to ensure the correct materials as being used, as specified by the engineers and certified by the quality assurance oversight.

Missed the boat on this one.

Tip Of The Iceberg

The announcement yesterday of the single indictment related to the Big Dig tunnel roof collapse is hopefully, only the tip of the iceberg.

Certainly this one charge alone is no where near being sufficient when you consider the fact that a citizen lost her life in this tragic event. The Attorney General is hopefully being patient and thorough in her investigation – and the citizens of Massachusetts need to be patient and allow her to do her job. It's time that we all shout out – loud & strong - to large corporations who put their own selfish financial interests/profits ahead of the safety and common good of the people of this nation, that enough is enough!

Pleased With Jack's Commentary

My wife and I were both surprised and pleased with Jack's commentary - It is about time someone speaks frankly to those who abuse the public trust.

We are also disgusted with the Big Dig and all the abuses of the people's trust - They should be holding the pols and the contractors responsible and NOT allowing them to pay their way out of trouble. If you or I had done anything like this, we would be in jail.

We have watched WBZ for many years and will continue to do so - Keep up the good work
