Federal prosecutors have agreed to drop charges against one of the Big Dig's largest contractors in a
2006 tunnel ceiling collapse that killed a Boston woman.
Prosecutors announced their decision to drop the most serious charges against Modern Continental Contruction Inc. in court on Friday.
The company pleaded guilty to 39 other counts of making false statements and faces a $19.5 million fine.
Milena Del Valle was killed when ceiling panels in a connector tunnel fell on her car.
The company admitted some employees knew about defects in part of an Interstate 93 tunnel wall but signed a certificate that it met specifications.
It also admitted overbilling the pay of some workers.
The company has filed for bankruptcy protection.
