Running The Marathon For Mom
Suzi Reynolds Is Raising Money To Fight Macular Degeneration
BOSTON (WBZ) ―
Marathon runners have many different motivations for their 26.2 mile journey. For some, the challenge drives them. For others, the reason for running is more personal.
Suzi Reynolds is a Talbots clothing buyer and a happily married woman - who has a thing for her hunky calendar. The
Guys For Eyes calendar is a project close to Suzi's heart. It's a fundraiser for
Mass Eye and Ear Infirmary, the hospital that treated her mother when she started suffering from macular degeneration.
"I'm very proud of this. I put my heart and soul into this and it takes a lot of time," she said
Being so frustrated and not being able to do anything and not having gone to medical school, this felt like something I could do to help," Suzi said.
After four years of churning out successful calendars, Suzi thought she would try something else to help Mass Eye and Ear, so she hit the streets
literally. Suzi started training four days a week, hours at a time, to run the Boston Marathon.
The hardest part of training, she says, is finding the time. The last thing Suzi wants to do after a day at the office is strap on the shoes and hit streets.
"It's exhausting. I come home and the last thing I want to do is put on my running clothes, and not just any running clothes, but like three layers because it's freezing outside."
Her competitive nature won't let her quit, even though her Mom, her inspiration, wishes she would.
"She thinks I'm crazy. She's afraid I'm going to hurt myself. I'm the fragile baby little girl."
Suzi hopes to raise $10,000 from her calendar for Mass Eye And Ear and another $4,000 from the Boston Marathon.
