The star runner was seen clutching his back and looking to a police officer for help.

Boston Marathon champion Robert Cheruiyot, who was seeking his fifth Boston Marathon title, pulled out of the race at Cleveland Circle.
Although Cheruiyot's exact injury is unknown, the star runner was seen clutching his back and looking to a police officer for help. It is believed he was suffering from severe back pain.
Cheruiyot pulled himself onto a stretcher and curled up in blankets and foil to keep warm. He was put into an ambulance and brought to St. Elizabeth's hospital in Brighton for treatment.
