Facebook Users Plan Class Reunion With 0 Budget
FT. WORTH, Texas (CBS) ―
Several high school classes are gearing up this time of year for their class reunions. But instead of paying a company or a reunion organizer, some are using a free and successful method to carryout reunions.
Ginny Kimberlin is organizing her class reunion with the help of eight classmates. "Right now we're doing everything on Paypal through Facebook," she said.
Kimberlin and the rest of the organizers used Facebook to reconnect with old classmates and help spread the word about Southwest High School's class of 1984 to 1996 reunion.
"We all came together through Facebook. That's were we found all of our old friends," said classmate and class reunion web designer Trent Grandley.
They didn't spend any money on postage or fliers. They haven't had to make mass phone calls either. Since they were under a time crunch and had virtually no budget, the organizers say Facebook worked like a charm.
"For us, starting up and using no money with just nine people -- we're now at about three to four hundred after planning for two and a half months on Facebook with no budget -- that is awesome!" said Kimberlin.
Seeing pictures and information online of the reunion attendees can help lighten the mood, apprehension and nerves before the classmates reunite on June 6.
"We're still in the planning, but the very late planning stages," said organizer Carol Shelton. "I'm very excited about seeing people I haven't seen in perhaps 20 years."
Kimberlin first got on Facebook with the help of her teenage son.
"We've had an entire group come together in the matter of a month from all different classes, and we've all become friends instantly," said Kimberlin. "We've planned this reunion with no budget and it has been fantastic."
