Are You On The New Abandoned Property List?

BOSTON (WBZ) ― Massachusetts has added 40,000 new names to its list of people, businesses and charities that can claim abandoned property from the state.

The new names include several local colleges, including Amherst College and Harvard Medical School.

The list represents a combined $30 million in unclaimed property.

It also includes 17 accounts over $100,000 and 32 accounts between $50,000 and $100,000.

The new names will be publicized in local papers around the state next month.

There are more than four million accounts in the Abandoned Property database, and some notable names are Manny Ramirez and Condoleezza Rice.

The entire list has $1.5 billion worth of unclaimed property.

Since Treasurer Tim Cahill took office in 2003, the Abandoned Property Division has returned $247 million.
