Woman Accused Of Tampering With Kids' Vitamins
BOSTON (WBZ) ―
A Woburn woman has admitted she switched Flintstones children's vitamins with candy in several stores as an act of revenge.
Denise Shannon, 38, told federal prosecutors she took the vitamins, substituted them with gumballs, Red Hot candy, jelly beans and M & M's, and then returned the bottles to stores.
They say she did this 8 to 10 times between October 2004 and September 2005.
The vitamins were switched at Target, Star Market, Shaw's, Brooks Pharmacy and CVS in Woburn and at the Market Basket in Burlington, according to the Boston Herald.
Shannon reportedly claimed she felt violated because she bought a bottle of Flintstones vitamins in 2004 that had been tampered with.
Shannon was indicted on federal charges of tainting consumer products with intent to cause serious injury to a business.
Her plea agreement has not yet been accepted by a judge. She faces up to three years in prison and a $250,000 fine if convicted.
Prosecutors say there's no evidence that any children were harmed by the switch.
