Coupons Help Ease Pain Of Sluggish Economy
BOSTON (WBZ) ―
Struggling with rising prices from the gas pump to the grocery store, Americans are looking for any relief they can get. More and more are finding some of that relief with coupons.
Alyson Miller is a stay-at-home mother of two, and is crazy for coupons. With two boys under the age of three, she is always looking for ways to save.
"I clip the coupons at night, after the kids go to sleep," she said. "Diapers are really expensive. I signed up for Huggies online and every month they send me a little booklet of coupons."
All that clipping and printing is paying off. Alyson says she saved $25 to $30 every trip to the store.
Coupon guru Sarah Gardner of
fashionupdate.com says you should never pay full price. Retailers are more willing than ever to offer deals.
"We're talking about saving 10 to 30 percent," Gardner said.
At sites like
valpak.com, you plug in your zip code and a list of stores in your area pop up with printable coupons. We found one New York City children's store that even offered to pay your cab fare.
Want to make sure you're getting the best deal?
"Go to
pricegrabber.com and do the comparison shopping," recommends Gardner.
Type in the product name for a list of competitive prices. Once you've found the best price, you can search for even more savings. Enter the name of the store on sites like
currentcodes.com and
couponcraze.com to check for any discounts available.
Some sites will E-mail coupons you can print.
"There are a couple websites that I signed up for that automatically send me coupons," Alyson Miller said.
Before taking her coupons to the store, Alyson logs on to find the cheapest place to fill-up her gas tank. You can find the lowest gas prices near you, right here on
wbztv.com.
