Coupons Save Savvy Shoppers Big Money
by Paula Ebben
BOSTON (WBZ) ―
While everyone loves a bargain, many may not realize that they pass them up just about every day.
With just a little bit of effort, shoppers could save big on many of the things they buy by using coupons.
"It's pretty easy to hit a few thousand dollars of savings for the typical American family," said Stephanie Nelson of
CouponMom.com.Nelson has taken coupon savings to a whole new level with what she calls stackable savings -- combining coupons with store sales, rebates and even competitor's coupons to save more than just the 20 percent off a single item.
"We're talking about everything from electronics, gifts, toys clothing groceries," Nelson said. "There are ways to combine savings programs for just about everything you buy."
"I just bought a color printer. It was on sale, so that's one savings. So, I stacked on top of that an in-store coupon that saved money," Nelson said. "Then I had a coupon from a competitor. It also had a mail in rebate."
But Nelson didn't stop there. She also got help from a Web site called
PriceProtectr.com. It lets you know when items you have purchased go on sale.
A week after she brought the printer home she went back to the store and got an adjustment.
"So now we're talking $140 for a $400 name brand printer," she said. "Not bad."
Nelson said the key is understanding the policies at stores.
With a little effort, shoppers could see a difference in their savings accounts.
