Bank Statements Regarding Online Security

BOSTON (WBZ) ― Bank of America, Sovereign Bank and TD Banknorth have provided WBZ with the following statements regarding their security.


BANK OF AMERICA STATEMENT


"We don't comment on individual reports, articles or surveys, but I can tell you that protecting customer information is a top priority at Bank of America and we have multiple layers of security to protect customer information.

"We continue to be a leader in requiring additional authentication with SiteKey, which helps customers confirm they are at a valid Bank of America Web site and helps us confirm our customers' identity. We launched SafePass in 2007 which provides two-factor authentication via a one-time password delivered to a mobile phone or from a wallet-sized card.

"We provide information to our customers on individual fraud scams and how to avoid identity theft through a variety of means, including through the security section on the bankofamerica.com site.

"Our award-winning online banking service has been recognized as an industry leader in security. Online security is a top priority at Bank of America and we have been a leader in introducing industry-leading security initiatives."


SOVEREIGN BANK STATEMENT 


"The safety and security of Sovereignbank.com is paramount at all times.
 
"We have put in place a number of world-class security measures and tools to ensure that all sensitive personal customer information remains secure and protected at all times. We also have extensive information on our site to educate customers about ways to protect themselves online, and offer virus protection software to customers through a partnership with McAfee.

"We have done everything possible to protect our customers and continuously upgrade those protections."

TD BANKNORTH STATEMENT

"First, preserving the safety and security of our customers' personal information is a fundamental component of how we do business and a responsiblity that we take very seriously.

"Second, we provide information on our company via our public Web pages, as do most companies with an online presence. Providing information about our company in this manner does not impact the security of our online banking platform.

"Finally, in our view, putting contact information on public pages is an important customer conveniece and carries a very low security risk. We are not aware of any cases of a financial institution being compromised as a result of providing contact information on a public Web page.

We assure customers that banking with us is safe and secure."
