Recalled Sandwich Pulled From Roche Bros.' Shelves

BOSTON (WBZ) ― The Massachusetts Department of Public Health is recalling several types of ready-to-eat "roller sandwiches" made by Wilmington-based DBD, or World Class Canapes, Inc., because the sandwiches may be contaminated with bacteria that causes listeria.

According to health officials, the sandwiches were sold by 18 Roche Brothers and Sudbury Farms in eastern Massachusetts and may have been available in the prepared food section, or used on party platters.

The "roller sandwiches" were made on July 30 and may have been sold under the names, "Progressive Gourmet Buffalo Chicken Roller Sandwich," "Progressive Gourmet Chicken Caesar Roller Sandwich," or "Progressive Gourmet Honey Turkey with Baby Spinach Roller Sandwich."

These sandwiches may have been purchased between July 31 and August 2.

Health officials urge consumers to throw out these sandwiches if they purchased them.

Listeriosis does not cause illness in healthy people, but it can be threatening for some people, including those with weak immune systems, the elderly and newborns. It can also cause miscarriages in pregnant women, officials said.

Symptoms of listeriosis include fever associated with muscle aches, fatigue and sometimes gastrointestinal symptoms such as cramping or diarrhea. The symptoms of illness can be mild and described as flu-like.
