Cyber Command Center May Come To Mass.
BEDFORD (AP) ―
Hanscom Air Force Base could someday play a key role in fighting cyber attacks.
Gov. Deval Patrick toured the base Thursday to promote the state's effort to convince the U.S. Air Force to open a new Cyber Command center in Massachusetts.
Seventeen other states are vying for the facility that could add more than 500 jobs to the local economy.
During a briefing on the base, Patrick said locating the Cyber Command center at Hanscom would result in more economic development and job creation related to cyber technology.
About 8,000 people are already employed at the base in Bedford.
A final decision by the U.S. Air Force is expected to be announced by September 2009.
