Bridal Parties Asked To Undergo Cosmetic Surgery
BOSTON (WBZ) ―
Brides who envision a dream wedding usually want the perfect dress, the perfect setting and a wedding party that looks picture perfect, too.
Now, though, many brides aren't stopping at hairstyles and manicures. They want complete bridal party makeovers.
Jeanne An is a real 21st Century bride -- planning her wedding and keeping it fun. "We're having cupcakes and videogames. And there will be a karaoke corner."
But she's dead serious about her wedding photos. Jeanne wants to be sure her only bridesmaid, her sister, Guy-Hun looks perfect. "It's my one wedding. We're going to have a photographer come in and take pictures that will last forever."
Wedding photography is expensive and the pictures do last a lifetime, so before her big day, Jeanne had one little request for her sister that she get botox. "It's just another thing for us to do together just like traveling or hanging out or going out for a bachelorette party."
"They want to get rid of the fine lines and wrinkles," explains cosmetic dermatologist Howard Brooks.
Dr. Brooks says brides of all ages are marching bridesmaids in to his office. "I had patients ask me, 'can I bring my bridal party in? I want them to have their lips done. I want their laugh lines filled in. I want botox."
Bridal party makeovers jumped 25 percent in the past two years according to
SpaFinder.com - and include botox, face peels -- even nose jobs. But Dr. Brooks says it's critical to remember - these are medical procedures that have to be taken seriously. "If that patient or that bridesmaid does not want that procedure done or they don't need that procedure, I have to relate that to the patient and in turn tell the bride as well."
Jeanne's sister wasn't offended and says she's excited to bond with her sister. "It's something that we've never done before it's something new that we're going to experience together."
And don't think the guys are off the hook. Dermatologists say they're seeing brides bringing the groom in for a little work as well. After all, they're in those photos too.
