Curious About State Official Pay Cuts

BOSTON (WBZ) ― A lot of people are angry about the sales tax hike and are asking why out elected leaders aren't taking pay cuts to hep close the budget gap.

After all, a lot of people working in the private sector have been forced to do that.

This led Arthur from Acton to ask: "How much would the state save if all members of our House and Senate and the governor too a 10 percent pay cut?"

The answer WBZ came up with is nearly $1.3 million and that's calculated by using the base pay of our state senators and representatives.

That number would actually be a little higher if the extra pay they earn by heading committees was figured into the equation.
