Brewing Something Special For Boston's First Night
BOSTON (WBZ) ―
By now you're probably familiar with most of the sights and
sounds of First Night in Boston.
But this year a local hotel is "brewing up"
something special for the festivities.
Cindy Gold is the resident Tea Sommelier at Boston's Park Plaza Hotel;
which holds special tea tastings every afternoon.
"I'm completely obsessed with tea. It has so much to
offer," says Gold. "The flavors, the textures, the effect the caffeine
has on us. Tea is both energizing and relaxing at the same time. It can offer
so much balance to us and our lives."
On First Night you'll be able to taste a special tea Cindy
brewed up just for the occasion. "There's actually nine different teas in
there, its' predominantly black team from India
and China.
There's also a small amount of oolong," says Gold.
It even smells great thanks to a unique blend of the teas
themselves, flower petals, some orange peel and a touch of nutmeg.
Gold says she wanted to create something that would remind
tea drinkers of the holidays. "There's something about those wonderful, warming
aromatic spices to me, that say the winter and say holidays."
Cindy also offers guided tea tastings if you're interested
in sampling her latest creations:
including
"tea-nog". The hotel also offers special tea-infused cuisine.
"We have a wide variety of ways to be inspired by and
honor the beauty of tea. There's just so much that tea can offer us culinarily,"
says Gold.
Cindy's special first night blend is available only at the
Park Plaza Hotel. It costs $14.50 for a quarter pound which makes about 45 cups
of tea.
If you're staying home for First Night, remember you can check out WBZ's live coverage on TV, including
the countdown to midnight and fireworks over Boston Harbor.
It all starts Monday night at 11pm.
