A Slice Of Improv For New Year's Eve In Boston
BOSTON (WBZ) ―
"First Night" in Boston has grown into a spectacular New Year's Eve celebration that now lasts more than 12 hours and includes more than 200 performances all across the city.
Among the groups again entertaining revelers this year is Improv Boston.
Since 1982, Improv Boston has delighted audiences around the country with their innovative approach to improvisational theater. Not only does the comedy troupe perform their own original shows, they also offer workshops and classes to help train both the young and old in how to write and perform improv.
"It teaches you how to think on your feet; it teaches leadership skills, self confidence. Improv really makes you aware of what's inside you and helps bring it out," says Improv Boston's Deana Tolliver.
While Improv performer, Kevin Harrington describes it this way: "You're like McGyver, you just come up on stage and the fact that you can say a word that wasn't written down; they're like 'oh my God! How did you do that?' Magic."
Improv Boston also takes its talents on the road, performing for private parties, and corporate events; as well as First Night Boston again this year.
They say they've got something special planned for this year's performance. "We're basically doing different scenes, games exercises live on stage, we're making things up as we go along," says Tolliver. Fellow performer, Jacey Bokuniewicz says "its collaborative, you just take what the person before you offered and keep going."
Improv Boston is giving two kids performances at First Night's family festival during the day, as well as two shows for older audiences in the evening
