Central MA Middle Schools Bans Energy Drinks
BOSTON (WBZ) ―
I know a few middle school aged kids and I would have to say for the most part they're pretty hyper. I can't imagine how amped up they would be after a couple of Red Bulls. Energy drinks are hugely popular with teens, in fact last year they sucked down about $3 billion worth.
But they aren't popular with two Central Massachusetts middle schools who just decided to
ban all energy drinks, according to the Worcester Telegram & Gazette.
The Dudley-Charlton Regional School Committee looked at studies that showed the health risks these highly caffeinated drinks pose to middle school aged children including increased heart rate, dehydration and nervousness.
So now no Red Bull or Monster or Rockstar on school grounds, buses or even at any school sponsored activity starting this fall.
Other middle schools across the country have banned energy drinks because they say some kids showed up to school
"literally drunk on a caffeine buzz."
Then why not ban Dunkin Donuts and Starbucks and Mountain Dew too?
Kids this age obviously love these drinks.
Do you think the health risk is too great and do you think it's alright for the schools to ban them?
