Chowing cookies is not the first thing that comes to mind when you think of dieting. But, even the Cookie Monster might be willing to give this one a try.
Get this, you eat cookies all day, and then a health dinner at night.
"It takes some getting used to," says Katia Powell
Katia Powell of Boston found the diet online. She says it was tough at first.
"They're not like Chips Ahoy."
But, Katia is thrilled with the results. She dropped 14 pounds in three weeks on the cookie diet.
"The cookies suppress hunger and enable you to be on a very low calorie diet," says cookie creator, Sanford Seigal.
Although new in Massachusetts, this diet was created by Miami doctor Sanford Seigal 35 years ago.
"It's a mixture of substances, but particularly protein."
"The results are amazing."
Amore is one of Dr. Seigal's patients. She is one of several success stories losing more than 150 pounds in eight months.
All dieters are monitored by a physician. Dr. Harry Azadian, a retired surgeon, is the medical director for the new facility in Burlington.
"If you follow this regimen," says Azadian, "you must lose weight."
Between the six cookies and dinner, you get about 800 calories a day. On so few calories, just about anyone would lose weight, but nutritionists warn, it is not a magic bullet.
"Permanent long-term weight loss needs to be a lifestyle change and not just another diet, or you're doomed to the diet yo-yoing cycle," says nutritionist Stacey Nelson.
There is a monthly fee, and it is not cheap. There is an initial cost of $295, a monthly fee of $125 and a $7 a day charge for the cookies.
Katia's not worried about the costs and she's not sick of the cookies
yet.
"It makes me feel good about myself. I've only been doing it for three weeks, so I want to see where I'm at by New Year's."
If you try to cheat on this diet, you will not be able to hide it from the doctors. If you indulge on sweets or other carbs, it will show up in your blood work.
