Peabody Twins Helping Other Kids With Brain Tumors
by Dr. Mallika Marshall
PEABODY (WBZ) ―
A set of Peabody twins who beat the odds is now reaching out to help other kids with brain tumors.
14-year-old Judith and Larry Theriault share a special bond, not only because they're twins, but because they both suffered from inoperable brain tumors when they were just toddlers..
"When I was two years old, I had a brain tumor, and I had to have chemo," said Larry.
Judith also underwent chemotherapy when she was three, but had to endure a second round after her tumor came back when she was ten.
"I missed a lot of school, 68 days, I was in the hospital," said Judith.
"We were as scared as you can possibly be, when you hear inoperable brain tumors, they made it through, we're hoping that other can get the same joy we've had because we're blessed," said the twins father, Larry.
That's why the Theriaults have spent the past several years, teaming up with the Jimmy Fund to raise money for brain tumor research at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
"I feel grateful they were able to save me from a fatal death, and i'm happy they're raising money for other children," said the younger Larry.
"I want all kids out there to have the same chance we got, not everyone is that lucky but I think everyone should have a chance to get up and enjoy every day," said Judith.
"We want to pass the torch to make sure another family knows there is light at the end of the tunnel, there is hope," said Kathleen Theriault, the twins' mother.
The twins will be the keynote speakers at the second annual Golf Ball black tie gala fundraiser at the Logan Hilton in Boston next Saturday, March 24th.
The Jimmy Fund will also hold its seventh annual Par for the Cure Golf Classic this summer in Kingston, N.H. and Haverhill.
