New Device Helps Fight Pesky Cellulite

BOSTON (WBZ) ― There is a new treatment to fight cellulite. It can firm up what many of us consider our trouble spots.

Lorraine Brooks has lost inches in all the right places, but this mother of four is most excited about her abs.

And it wasn't just her stomach; Lorraine also wanted to tighten up her rear end and thighs.

Here's what helped Lorraine shape up so fast. It's called Velashape and it claims to be quicker and more effective than the original cellulite-busting device Velasmooth.

The device uses radiofrequency and infrared light to create heat, which is combined with massage and suction to firm the cellulite.

"It reduces the size of fat pockets," explains Dr. Craig Mezrow, a plastic surgeon. "Reduces the circumference of a thigh, and makes the skin smoother."

Dr. Mezrow says the device reduces cellulite and shrinks fat, quickly and easily. "It's a wonderful advancement."

It has been for Marlene McGregory, a marathon runner who struggled with pockets of stubborn cellulite. "I want to be able to be able to wear Victoria Secret's underwear when I'm 60."

She also tried Velashape. The heat reaches 104 degrees and the skin turns red, but they say it's not that uncomfortable. "It just feels like a comfortable massage."

After four treatments over a month, Marlene lost nine-and-a-half pounds. You can see a big change on her back and her formerly tight pants are baggy now. "It has reduced my cellulite remarkably... It's amazing."

Lorraine agrees. She feels tighter all over and her stomach looks more like she did before kids. "I think I got excellent results, and especially for me was in my stomach."

Velashape costs $250 per treatment area and it takes about five sessions to see results, and it's generally not covered by insurance since it's considered a cosmetic procedure.
