Childern's Pain Center Opening In Waltham
BOSTON (WBZ) ―
There is nothing harder for a parent than watching your child suffer from pain. But now, Children's Hospital is opening a new center in Waltham to help kids who suffer from chronic pain.
Children's Hospital is opening a new pediatric pain rehabilitation center at its Waltham campus, which specializes in treating patients with "Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy," or RSD. People with RSD suffer from lingering phantom pain after an injury.
Children's new pediatric pain center -- which officially opens this week -- is the only one of its kind in the country.
The new facility has state-of-the art physical therapy equipment, a heated therapeutic pool, and biofeedback and Pilates machines. Therapists also teach patients pain management techniques, which include training patients to use arm or leg and to reprogram pain sensations.
The plans for this new million-dollar facility have been in the works for over a decade, but were only made possible recently, partially thanks to a donation from a patient's family.
