Some Juices May Hurt Prescriptions' Effectiveness

BOSTON (WBZ) ― Drinking orange, apple and grapefruit juice may be good for your health but they may also contain compounds that hamper the effects of several drugs commonly used to treat infections, allergies, high blood pressure and cancer.

The report found that those juices decrease the absorption of the following medications: The allergy drug Allegra, certain antibiotics, such as Cipro and levofloxacin (or Levaquin), and itraconazole (Sporanox), Beta-blockers such as atenlolol, celiprolol and talinolol, transplant-rejection drug cyclosporine and the chemotherapy drug etoposide.

People should take their pills only with water and check with their doctor or pharmacist if they have any questions.
