'Rebounding' May Burn More Calories Than Running
DALLAS (CBS) ―
It's called "rebounding" -- an exercise where one jumps up and down on a mini-trampoline. Some say it's the best full-body exercise you can get. According to NASA, rebounding is 68-percent more effective than jogging.
When CBS station KTVT-TV went to Power Play Fitness in North Dallas, exercisers were jumping for joy and good health in one rebounding class. "It's plyometrics," explained instructor Veronica Hudgell. "It's a lot of core, glutes, quad, handsprings, shoulders [an] overall body workout."
Not only does rebounding work your muscles, it can jump start your metabolism, detox your body, reduce fat and provide a cardio and strength-building workout.
"I've really noticed it helps so much more with my stomach and getting those muscles just strengthened," class member Mary Griffiths said.
You can exercise on a mini-trampoline at home or outdoors. Rebounding is good for athletes, those with physical challenges and seniors.
Allen Chiropractor Dr. James Denito uses it in his practice. "We might have an athlete; whose in volleyball for instance, practice their jumps. We might have a sprinter practice aggressive sprinting techniques."
Class member David Hudgell has seen results from rebounding. "It's just really helped me with my overall fitness and particularly my core. Because you're having to balance on it [trampoline] while you're doing sprints, while you are doing weight training."
At home or in a class, a couple of times a week with rebounding can bounce you to better health.
