Bird Tests Positive For West Nile In Framingham
FRAMINGHAM (WBZ) ―
A bird found in Framingham has tested positive for West Nile Virus, the Framingham Board of Health said Tuesday.
The discovery came the same day that Massachusetts health officials issued advisories about West Nile Virus and Eastern Equine Encephalitis, two dangerous illnesses transmitted by infected mosquitoes.
The Framingham Board of Health urges residents to take precautions to limit their chances of contracting West Nile Virus. Officials say to limit outdoor activity from dusk to dawn, which are peak times for mosquitoes. Residents are also urged to wear long-sleeves and insect repellant. It is also recommended to drain all outdoor containers holding water because they provide a breeding ground for mosquitoes.
Last year there were six human cases of West Nile Virus in Massachusetts. There were no human cases of EEE, though infected mosquitoes were found.
