MEMA To Brief Towns About Ice Storm Funding
BOSTON (WBZ) ―
The Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency says it will hold six "applicant briefings" to reveal what's available for federal funding for communities crippled by the December ice storm.
The federal disaster money is available for Berkshire, Franklin, Hampden, Hampshire and Worcester Counties.
The major disaster declaration does not apply to individuals, residents or businesses.
MEMA says the briefings will "explain the reimbursement process for receiving Federal funds for eligible expenses incurred by state and local governments, as well as eligible private non-profit organizations, for emergency work and repair or replacement of infrastructure and public facilities."
Cities, towns, state agencies and private non-profits affected by the storm are encouraged to send a representative because the briefings will explain the reimbursement process in detail.
They can apply to be reimbursed for 75 percent of the cost of debris removal, emergency services related to the disaster, and repairing, replacing or restoring damaged public infrastructure.
MEMA says the briefings are expected to last about an hour-and-a-half.
To see if your community is eligible, visit FEMA's
web site or contact the MEMA Disaster Recovery Department at (508) 820-2055.
