Hearings On Unitil's Ice Storm Response Begin
BOSTON (WBZ) ―
The
ice storm in December left thousands without power some for as much as two weeks in central Massachusetts because efforts to restore service were slow.
On Monday, Unitil offered testimony in the state investigation into the company's response to the ice storm.
The Department of Public Utilities would not allow any cameras into the hearings, but Unitil executives pledged cooperation, saying they have already made changes recommended by outside consultants. "We got 28 recommendations that came out of the Yardley Report that we are implementing," explains George Gantz of Unitil. "We are not waiting until the end of the hearings to do that. We expect the department will make additional findings areas that they would like up to make additional changes. We will incorporate those into our plans going forward, but we will be ready."
Some of those changes including expanding their call center and also getting more crews and establishing contracts with more crews in the event of another kind of disaster.
Monday's hearing was the first of five to be held this week.
