As a
Worcester bar comes under fire for its alleged part in a deadly drunk driving crash last December, the state has released a new list of bars with the worst records when it comes to drunk drivers.
The State Alcohol Beverage Control Commission gets a list of bars connected to drunk driving arrests.
About 1,400 people are arrested each year, and they all have to have answer the same question in court: "Where did you have your last drink?"
The I-Team went under cover last November with state investigators. Under cover video captured one man at a Worcester bar so drunk he could barely keep his head up. Yet he was still being served Heinekens. His car was parked out side.
Fortunately, state alcohol investigators were there and we watched as local police put him in a cab. The bar was recently closed the by state for 12 days as a result.
The I-Team obtained a list of the bars with the worst records when it came to drunken driving arrests.
Michael's Harborside was at the top of that list in 2008, named 10 times as the last stop by a drunk driver.
That bar has since closed the upstairs dance club and alcohol consumption has dropped 40 percent.
JJ Oroukes in Northboro was second in 2008 with nine notices from the court system. They were shut down for more than a week in December.
Tabu Nightclub in Saugus was connected to eight drunk driving arrests. That club ended up losing its liquor license for five days.
Now Jillians is the Worcester bar at the center of the most recent deadly crash.
Since 2007 Jillians has been named by the courts four times as the last stop for a convicted drunk driver.
Jillians is trying to have its liquor license transferred to another company, but WBZ is told that many not happen anytime soon.
