Quincy DPW Cracks Down On Slacking Workers

QUINCY (WBZ) ― Just days after an I-Team investigation revealed some Department of Public Works employees were getting paid to do very little officials are taking action.

City officials have now launched their own investigation and say slacking workers could face disciplinary action.

"Without getting too much into which individuals were there, there are some supervisory issues that we may have," said Human Resources Director Steve McGrath.

The I-Team's investigation revealed while the workers were supposed to be busy cleaning streets and repairing potholes, some were hardly working at all and were even doing personal business on taxpayers' dimes.

The investigation uncovered the waste of money in a city that's already facing a financial crisis of a $12 million deficit. Property taxes in the city have jumped 14 percent.

"We're not going to stand for it, and the public's not going to stand for it," said Quincy Mayor Tom Koch.
