2 Walpole Police Officers Accused Of Stealing
One Accused Of Stealing Food; Other Accused Of Stealing From Evidence Locker
WALPOLE (WBZ) ―
Clouds loom over the Walpole Police Department as two police officers are investigated in two separate incidents.
Sources tell the I-Team Officer David Haddigan allegedly stole food from the Walpole Stop and Shop on a regular basis, apparently helping himself to whatever he wanted in the grocery store without ever paying a dime.
It appears Officer Haddigan won't be charged criminally, but a disciplinary hearing in his case will be held Tuesday, and Haddigan's job is on the line.
The internal investigation into the accusations against Haddigan comes on the heels of another case of possible wrongdoing in the department.
Officer Tom Connor is being investigated by the Norfolk District Attorney's white collar crime unit. Connor is accused of stealing money from the department's evidence locker.
Police Chief Rick Stillman says he can't comment on either case.
Walpole selectman have held several closed door hearings over the past few months to determine what should happen to the two men who are supposed to uphold the laws in town and not break them.
Ultimately the town fathers will decide whether the men, who allegedly stole food or money, should be trusted to wear a uniform again.
Officer Haddigan is on paid administrative leave. Officer Connor is on unpaid administrative leave.
The hearing on Haddigan's job is set for next Tuesday morning.
