According to State police, all lanes on Route 128 at Route 1 in Peabody were closed for at least an hour due to high tension lines down across all lanes of the highway.
All lanes are now open on both sides of the highway. However, the ramp from Route 1 North to 128 North remains closed.
The wires are down near the Route 128 and I-95 split.
Traffic on both the northbound and southbound sides of Route 128 were initially being re-routed to Route 1..
Motorist Peter Baglioni said that there was an "X" on the pole that came down and it looked as if a truck going by was caught under the wires and pole.
There are no reported injuries at this time.
According to Peabody Municipal Light Plant, several thousand customers were without power right after the incident. They have isolated the power outage to just the area where the lines are down. Only a couple hundred customers remain without power.
