After being returned to Boston to face a murder charge in the 1984 beating and strangling death of an 18-year-old girl, a judge orderĀ
Sultan Omar Chezulu held without bail.
The 60-year-old Chezulu is charged with the murder of Elise "Yolanda" Hernandez, whose body was found on Dec. 29, 1984 in a garbage-strewn lot in Roxbury shortly after she left work.
The medical examiner determined she died from blunt force trauma and strangulation. Police said she had also been sexually assaulted.
Authorities announced Tuesday that they linked Chezulu to the unsolved murder through DNA left at the scene. Chezulu had supplied police with a DNA sample upon his prison release in 2004 from an earlier robbery conviction.
He was arrested Tuesday in Atlanta in connection with Hernandez's killing.
