Two women are dead and a third suffered serious injuries after a driver lost control of her vehicle on Route 1 South in Wrentham, left the road and crashed head-on into a tree.
State police say the driver and a front-seat passenger were declared dead at the scene near Myrtle Street.
The driver was identified as Alexa Latteo, 19, of Mansfield. State police said she was not wearing a seat belt.
The front-seat passenger, Debra Davis, 20, of Milton, was wearing a seat belt, state police said.
A rear-seat passenger, Nina Houlihan, 20, of Norton, was flown to Boston's Beth Israel Hospital where she is in fair condition. She was not wearing a safety belt, state police said.
State police believe the three friends had been in the parking lot of Gillette Stadium for a Kenny Chesney concert, but they had to leave at 7 p.m. because they did not have tickets for the show. "Possibly they were coming from the concert by the clothes they were wearing and some of the pictures on their cell phones," said Lt. Jeff Stuart of the Massachusetts State Police.
Police say troopers responded to the scene Saturday at about 6:56 p.m.
Latteo was studying to be a teacher and worked as a teacher's aide in Mansfield. She was spending the summer on Martha's Vineyard and had come home to help her mother this week, who is pregnant and about to give birth.
