Group Wants To Build 70-Story Skyscraper In Boston
BOSTON (CBS4) ―
A local development group wants to add another skyscraper to the Boston skyline. The proposed 70-story tower would become the tallest building in the city.
The tower would be built on city owned land at 115 Federal Street in Winthrop Square. It would include 1.3 million square feet of commercial office space and nearly 40,000 square feet of restaurant and retail space. An observatory called the "Lookout Garden" would be housed at the top of the building.
"Boston is one of the world's great cities, and today's proposal indicates the level of quality that our city deserves and merits," Mayor Menino said. "This project proposal combines superlative aesthetics with the principles of smart growth and environmental sustainability, presenting residents and visitors with a new, exhilarating experience of Boston."
The proposal from Trans National Properties has been submitted to the Boston Redevelopment Authority. The company has retained architect Renzo Piano to handle the designs.
The proposal has to pass several stages of review before approval. A public meeting will also be scheduled to present the proposal to the community.
