Husband Arrested In Wife's Murder In Abington

ABINGTON, Mass. (WBZ) ― A husband charged with killing his wife at their home in Abington has been ordered held without bail. Police say he believed she was cheating on him.

Officers went to the house on Pilgrim St. shortly after 10 p.m. Tuesday night. According to prosecutors, John Tassinari, 29, called police and confessed to shooting his wife more than a dozen times during a jealous rage. "It was from a male," said Assistant D.A. Shelby Smith as she described the phone call. "Saying my wife has been cheating on me and I just shot her dead."

They found his wife, Barbara Tassinari, 29, dead in the driveway with gunshot wounds to the head.

John Tassinari allegedly told police his wife was cheating on him. He was arrested at the scene.

Barbara Tassinari's brother lives next door to the couple. He heard the shots, ran outside and held John Tassinari at gunpoint until police arrived.

John is a gun collector who owns up to seven firearms. On his MySpace page, he lists the glock .45 caliber – allegedly used in the killings – as one of his favorites, saying "With laser grips, this is my first choice for things that go bump in the night." He also calls the glock an "awesome home defense pistol."

Abington Police Chief David Majenski said John Tassinari was issued a firearms permit in 2004 and more guns were found in the home.

John pleaded not guilty at his arraignment on a murder charge Wednesday morning in Brockton District Court.

Police say the Tassinari's had two children - a 10-year-old boy and 2-year-old. The toddler was home at the time of the shooting, but was not hurt.

The couple had no prior history with police. Investigators spent more than 12 hours at the home after the shooting collecting evidence. They also removed a car from the scene.
