Weapons belonging to a Massachusetts soldier missing in Iraq since May were found outside of an Iraqi's house on Tuesday, military officials said Thursday.
Nine Iraqis are in custody and are being questioned about the weapons, officials said.
Army Specialist Alex Jimenez, of Lawrence, has been missing since his unit was ambushed by insurgents in Iraq on May 12. Jimenez and two of his fellow soldiers were kidnapped. One soldier's body was later found in the Euphrates River.
Jimenez and the other missing solder's identification tags were found in June, though neither has been seen or heard from since they disappeared. They are classified as captured and missing.
A battalion of soldiers found weapons and ammunition Tuesday, including two U.S. M-4s, belonging to Jimenez and the two other soldiers. Analysts used serial number on the M-4s to identify them.
The weapons were found about 7 miles from where Jimenez and the others were abducted from.
