Missing Soldier's Body Coming Home To Lawrence

LAWRENCE (WBZ) ― The remains of a Lawrence Army sergeant who was missing in Iraq for more than 14 months are being returned to his hometown.

Sgt. Alex Jimenez's body will be returned on Friday. Jimenez was one of three members of the 2nd Brigade of the 10th Mountain Division kidnapped during an ambush in May 2007. His body was found on July 8 just west of Jurf As Sukhr, Iraq.

The body of another soldier, Pfc. Byron Fouty, of Waterford, Mich., was also found. The body of the third was found in the Euphrates River.

Jimenez's father, Andy Jimenez, said the family has not been told how Alex died.

A wake is planned for Friday, July 25 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., and his funeral will be held the following day at St. Mary's Church on Hampshire Street.

Jimenez will be buried in a national cemetery on Long Island. His wife and mother live in New York.
