Harvard graduate student Alexander Pring-Wilson will go back on trial this week to persuade the jury he acted in self defense when he stabbed a man to death in April 2003.
The now 29-year-old was convicted of manslaughter in his first trial.
Pring-Wilson says he acted in self defense when he fatally stabbed Michael Colono, 18, during a street fight.
The former grad-student's second trial is possible because of a ruling issued by the Supreme Judicial Court five months after he was convicted, that allows juries to consider a victim's violent past if it sheds light on a self-defense claim.
Pring-Wilson's trial, which is expected to last up to one month, will begin on Monday in Middlesex Superior Court.
Pring-Wilson plans to testify again.
