A third person has been charged in connection with an illegal plastic surgery clinic investigation at a home in Framingham.
A couple from Brazil was arrested Monday after a woman died following a liposuction procedure there. Luiz Carlos Ribeiro and his wife Ana Maria Miranda Ribeiro are charged with unauthorized practice of medicine. They also face several drug charges.
The owner of the home where the illegal operations allegedly took place, Ana Celia Pena Sielemenn, was arrested Tuesday on drug charges.
Investigators say Sielemenn was involved with the illegal surgical procedures, and that she distributed illegal narcotics to people who had the operations in the basement of her home.
24-year-old Fabiola DePaula died Sunday after something went wrong during an illegal liposuction procedure.
The Ribeiros are not licensed to practice medicine in Massachusetts.
Prosecutors say the couple had 30-day work visas for the sole purpose of performing plastic surgery in the basement of the condominium. The alleged surgeries were performed on massage tables.
An autopsy on DePaula is still not complete.
Middlesex District Attorney Martha Coakley says two other women have come forward to say they underwent procedures in the home. One of them is currently in the hospital with an infection.
Luiz Carlos Ribeiro is being held on $250,000 cash bail. His wife is being held on $50,000 cash bail.
