Northborough Soldier, Blogger Killed In Iraq
DENVER (AP) ―
An Army officer who grew up in Northborough and blogged for the Rocky Mountain News from Iraq was killed last week.
The military says Major Andrew Olmsted died Thursday with another soldier when rebels attacked with small arms near Sadiyah.
Olmsted began writing for the News on May 21st and described himself as a libertarian.
He had written what he called "Final Post" about his death and asked a friend to post it on his Web site,
andrewolmsted.com, if he died in Iraq.
In it, Olmsted, warns against making his death an argument for or against the war.
He also quoted Plato as saying "only the dead have seen the end of war."
Olmsted was originally from Maine and received his bachelor's degree from Clark University in Worcester in 1992.
He graduated in 1987 from St. John's High School in Shrewbury.
