Suspect Arrested In Central Mass. Highway Attacks

SPENCER (CBS4) ― Police have arrested a man they believe is responsible for a string of highway attacks in central Massachusetts.

29-year-old Robert Canavan of Hubbardston was arrested Wednesday afternoon. Canavan faces two counts of assault with a deadly weapon. Prosecutors say more charges could be filed.

Five vehicles traveling on Route 49 in Spencer have been struck by rocks and other objects over the past week. In one incident, a bottle of suntan lotion smashed the windshield of a tractor-trailer.

Police believe Canavan is responsible for all five incidents. They have not released a motive.
