Cuban defector Aroldis Chapman, a left-hander with a 100-mile-an-hour fastball, has reportedly changed agents.
Chapman is a 21-year-old free agent being courted by the Red Sox, Yankees, Mets and other teams.
According to the
Boston Globe, "Chapman has dumped Boston native Edwin Meija and signed with the Hendricks Brothers."
Randy and Alan Hendricks represent Andy Pettitte and were also the agents for Roger Clemens.
In a statement, Meija's agency said they were "greatly surprised and deeply disappointed" Chapman decided to change agents.
Chapman gained attention during the World Baseball Classic in March, when he pitched well against Australia and badly against Japan.
He was 0-1 with a 5.68 ERA in two appearances in the WBC.
He struck out eight but walked four in 6 1-3 innings, allowing four runs and six hits.
Chapman defected to the tiny country of Andorra in Europe last summer and became a free agent.
