Police in Milford say they have identified the mother of a newborn baby found in a garbage truck on the corner of Purchase and Camp Streets in Milford Saturday morning.
Officials say the mother is a 27-year-old woman from Milford. According to officials, emergency crews were called to the Milford Police Department to examine the mother of the infant.
The body was found by DPW workers only after it was tossed into the BFI garbage truck. Police are not saying if the baby is a boy or a girl. Police say the infant was taken from the Chief Medical Examiner's office, and a post-mortem exam will be performed on Monday to determine the baby's cause of death.
On Saturday, neighbors had no idea why police were in the area but when they found out it was about a baby it the garbage, they were horrified.
"They asked me if I knew anyone in the neighborhood who was pregnant," said neighbor Melanie Lombarto. "I don't know of anything. It's very sad because there are so many people out there who can't have children and who would have loved to have that baby."
It is not clear if charges will be filed against the mother.
