BOSTON (WBZ) ― The stars were shining in Boston Monday night, as some Hollywood heavy hitters walk the red carpet for the premiere of "Gone Baby Gone."

The film is the directorial debut of Boston's own Ben Affleck; it stars his little brother, Casey. Both brothers were at the AMC Boston Common for tonight's premiere.

Ben's best friend Matt Damon even made an appearance at the screening. "I was supposed to be in Japan, and I was about the leave and just said 'I can't do it. I have to go to Boston to support this movie and these guys.' It's such a huge night for them… So, I'm going to Japan tomorrow morning."

"Gone Baby Gone," is based on the novel by local author Dennis Lehane. It is the story of a 4-year-old Dorchester girl who disappears, and the quest of two Boston detectives to find her.

Affleck shot the movie in Boston, Chelsea and Quincy last summer. "This is a great place to shoot movies," Affleck said at the time. "Companies thinking about coming here definitely should," he said. "They'll be met with enthusiasm, and they'll get to shoot in a place that is really unique and distinct."

During shooting, Affleck lived near Harvard Square with his wife, Jennifer Garner, and daughter Violet.

The cast of "Gone Baby Gone" includes Ben's brother Casey Affleck, Morgan Freeman, Ed Harris, and Michelle Monaghan.

"Gone Baby Gone" debuts in theaters on Friday.
