BOSTON (WBZ) ― The Massachusetts Lottery is hoping a new $20 scratch ticket with $1 billion in prizes will boost sagging sales.

The Billion Dollar Blockbuster goes on sale later this month - with a top prize of $1 million a year for life.

Earlier this year, the lottery offered its first $20 ticket - the Star Spangled Sweepstakes - but sales for the one-time drawing were well below expectations.

This time, they're going with a scratch ticket that offers more than 40,000 instant winners including ten tickets with $10 million prizes.

The Billion Dollar Blockbuster will be in stores September 25.

The Lottery hopes this new game will raise more than $154 million for cities and towns across the state.

Last year, all of the lottery's games combined raised a reported $900 million.
