A woman was killed when a marked Boston police cruiser slammed into her car in South Boston, police officials said.
The collision happened Saturday afternoon at West Broadway and D Street as a Boston police officer was responding to an unrelated call, police said.
The cruiser hit the woman's Saab, which rolled over into a wall, trapping her inside. She was rushed to Boston Medical Center, where she later died. Her name will not be released until her family has been notified.
"I couldn't believe it, seeing the car just mangled like that,:" witness Billl Foley said. "Up against the wall, on its side. It's just scary."
The officer was also taken to an area hospital and is expected to be OK.
Investigators said the lights and the siren of the cruiser were active when the officer crashed into the Saab. Witnesses said the woman had the green light at the intersection.
No charges have been filed.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with (the family) right now," Suffolk County District Attorney Dan Conley said.
State Police are leading the investigation.
