Police Save Bourne Officer From Burning SUV

BOURNE (CBS4) ― A Bourne police officer survived a crash Tuesday morning thanks to several quick-thinking officers.

30-year-old Wendy Noyes of Buzzard's Bay lost control of her car and slammed into a pole on Route 28 near the Bourne Rotary and it burst into flames.

State troopers flagged down truck drivers for fire extinguishers, while Carver police chief Arthur Parker stablized her in the vehicle and then pulled her from the burning wreckage.

"It was within seconds of that car being overtaken by fire, " said Trooper Doug Lynch.

Officer Noyes was rushed to Falmouth Hospital, where she was treated for a broken leg and a separated shoulder.

Parker told CBS4 two Bourne police officers were hurt trying to rescue Noyes. They were treated at Tobey Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Firefighters put out the fire before it could spread.

The officer was in full uniform on her way to work at the time of the accident.

Chief Parker shrugged off any praise, "The officer needed help and everybody there used their experience and training to provide the help, I don't think its anything fancy."
