The carnival maintenance manager who was indicted on manslaughter charges related to the death of a man in Shrewsbury will not be going to jail.
Brian McCullough pleaded guilty Wednesday to involuntary manslaughter and was sentenced to 2 1/2 years probation.
38-year-old Andrew Fohlin was killed in September of 2004 when a "Sizzler" carnival ride he was on, flew apart at a church fair. The lap bar on the ride failed when two bolts popped off.
Fohlin, who was mentally disabled and lived in a state-run residence in Shrewsbury, went to the fair in a group outing.
According to a state Department of Public Safety report, McCullough told state investigators, "there were no ride maintenance logs because no maintenance had been performed" on the ride.
Since Fohlin's death, the state's public safety department has revised its regulations. It now requires that up-to-date safety certification stickers be prominently displayed on all carnival rides.
