Boston homicide detectives are investigating the death of a 21-year-old student who fell from the roof of a 4-story building where a huge party brawl had broken out Friday night.
Police said they responded to 14 Glenville Avenue in Brighton after receiving a call just before 2:30 a.m. that a fight was happening. Police then found Shawn Dow in the rear alley. He was rushed to Brigham and Women's Hospital where he died.
Detectives are investigating whether Dow was pushed to his death. They said a fight had broken out during the party and lasted about 30 minutes.
One other partygoer was taken to an area hospital with serious but stable injuries.
Witnesses described the brawl as absolute mayhem.
"We basically locked ourselves in our apartment," said resident Erik Des Plantes. "From the back of our window we could see the area was being tapped off. We didn't actually see the body but obviously something had happened because there was a big pool of blood there."
Inside the apartment building there was grim evidence, including blood on the walls, broken beer bottles scattered all over and missing pieces of the banister walls, allegedly used as weapons.
"Apparently they hit one of the girls who was on the third floor because she asked them to leave when they were being rowdy," said resident Joe Zoccoli.
There is no lock on the door that leads to the rooftop where there was evidence of alcohol.
"People have parties up there, and I wouldn't go up there and have a lot to drink because it does seem like a really dangerous thing to have a lot of people (up there), especially people who are out of control and are really drunk," said neighbor Chris Arco.
Dow was a student at the Art Institute of Boston.
Several partygoers were taken to Boston police headquarters to be interviewed about the incident but no arrests have been made.
