Six Officers Disciplined For Snelgrove's Death
BOSTON (CBS4) ―
The Boston Police Department announced Friday afternoon that it has suspended, demoted or reprimanded six officers who were involved in the fatal shooting of an Emerson College student last year.
Officers Rochefort Milien, who fired the pepper-spray pellet that struck Victoria Snelgrove, 21, in the eye and killed her, agreed to a 90-day suspension. He was cited for exercising unreasonable judgment and excessive force. He is also required to participate in re-training regarding the use of force and will transfer out of the Special Operations Division.
Snelgrove was shot as police tried to quell a Red Sox victory celebration outside Fenway Park.
The department suspended Sergeant Francis Flynn and Officer Samil Silta, who fired pepper pellets at fans who climbed the girders behind Fenway's left-field wall.
Silta will be required to participate in re-training regarding the use of force and will be transferred out of the Special Operations Division.
Superintendent James Claiborne, who was in charge of security that night, has been demoted to captain. The department's internal investigation concluded that Claiborne failed to create a proper operational plan for controlling the crowd.
Earlier this week, prosecutors said they would not bring criminal charges against officers involved in the shooting.
